At Komē Beauty we understand that each purchase is an investment. Therefore, we recommend that you treat your Units like your own hair with regular washing, condition, brushing and nightly protection. Here are some FAQ's and Tips to ensure your investment lasts.
How to Detangle
Always start from the bottom of the hair shaft and gently work your way to the top. We suggest using a paddle brush or a wide toothcomb while detangling.
Shampoo and Condition
You can wash your hair as often as you would like. All Komē units are created with 100% Virgin Human Hair and should be treated with love and care. If you have bleached or colored your extensions, use products made specifically for color treated hair to protect from fading. It is recommended to use a top prior to washing, brush your hair to remove tangles. Make sure to distribute shampoo and conditioner evenly through hair. Do not scrunch hair during this process as it will create tangles. After shampooing, do not skip this step as it keeps hair soft and manageable. We also recommend deep conditioning periodically, or once a week for wavy and curly textures. Pat hair dry, add leave in conditioner and allow to air dry.
For Wavy and Curly Textures
To avoid frizzing, wet the hair prior to detangling. If you plan to wear your hair in its natural curl/wavy pattern, we recommend applying a curl defining or control cream to wet hair. You can also co-wash your hair once a week. Always use a wide toothcomb or Denman brush to comb through.
Styling Your Hair
Flat iron, curling, roller sets, wand curls… we love them all! Avoid using styling products that contain alcohol as it will dry the hair out. Use caution and control the heat of your styling tools. Komē hair can accept four hundred degrees of heat, however we suggest using heat sparingly to ensure longevity of your extensions. Using silicon serum or heat protectant prior to styling is necessary!
Sleep and Nightly Routine
Never, ever, ever sleep on wet hair. You are guaranteed a tangled nest. Brush out all tangles for curly and wavy hair, braiding or twisting your extensions will help to protect and maintain patterns. Always cover your hair with a silk/satin bonnet or scarf. If this is a challenge, you can cover your pillow with a silk or satin case. Remember, cotton absorbs with will remove any oils from your hair and cause frizzing.
Frequently asked questions
How much hair would I need for a wig or sew-in?
The following are suggestions only. Depending on your desired fullness, you may need more than suggested.
14"-16" - 2 bundles
18"-24" - 3 bundles
26"-30" - 4 bundles
30" or more - 5 bundles
Can I color this hair?
Yes! Our hair is unprocessed 100% Virgin Human Hair. We do suggest you have your hair colored by a professional for the best results.
Does this hair shed?
All manufactured, weft hair will experience minimal shedding which is normal. If wefts are cut, you can experience more shedding than normal, however it should not impact the density. Komē units are double reinforced at the end of each weft to prevent shedding.
Cleaning Silk
Our suggestion: Hand wash only in lukewarm water and air dry. Silk is weak when it is wet, yet strong when dry. NEVER wring your silk! You can choose to use detergents such as Woolite, or any other silk specific detergents, make sure your detergent states it is safe for silks. As a rule of thumb, spot test first to ensure your detergent does not harm your silk. If your detergent includes protease, any alkaline, bleach, alcohol, or enzymes; it will dissolve your silk!
What is Momme?
Silk is measured by weight using momme (mm). * momme = 1 oz. The higher the weight, the thicker the silk fabric.
Silk under 18 momme is considered lightweight and often fragile, 19 to 22 mm is considered the industry standard range of offering, and anything above that is considered heavyweight. Komē Silk products have a weight of 19mm or more.
Silk Product Standard
All Komē Silks are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. This means our silks have been evaluated and guaranteed to be free of harmful irritants and toxins.
